Currently Logback tries to determine class info like Code Location and Version Info on its own using some heuristics implemented in PackagingDataCalculator.

When using the Logback in environment like OSGi its possible to provide a more accurate values for CodeLocation and Version Info [1]. So if an extension point can be provide then one can substitute default implementation with an OSGi aware version
