I would like to add that the small amount of logging on initialization should probably be on by default. I could have saved several ours debugging the logging in an ear project on glassfish had it been printing the debug output on startup. I think we should seriously consider having that the default. If no logback.xml configuration can be found then it should at the bare minimum print out all of that debugging information to stdout or stderr. I believe this would be the best fix for this and the related issues.
