I'm unable to create a bugzilla account at http://bugzilla.slf4j.org/createaccount.cgi Could someone enter this bug report for me? If I change my version of logback to 0.9.11 I don't get this. I get it when I use logback version 0.9.13. I'm using version 1.5.5 of slf4j. How to avoid modifying logback.xml in different environments?

Hi My logback.xml contains the following RollingFileAppender configuration: <appender name="FILE" class="ch.qos.logback.core.rolling.RollingFileAppender"> <File>/usr/share/tomcat5/logs/Dummy.log</File> <RollingPolicy class="ch.qos.logback.core.rolling.TimeBasedRollingPolicy"> <FileNamePattern>Dummy.%d.log</FileNamePattern> <MaxHistory>120</MaxHistory> </RollingPolicy> <layout class="ch.qos.logback.classic.PatternLayout"> <Pattern>%d{HH:mm:ss.SSS} [%thread] %-5level %logger{36} - %msg%n</Pattern> </layout> </appender> The log file is created in /usr/share/tomcat5/logs, which is on the production Unix server. The problem is my development environment is on Windows, and Tomcat in a different directory, so I have to modify the directory every time before I deployed the application to the production server. Is there a convenient way that I don't have to modify logback.xml, and share the same logback.xml in different environments? Thank you! -- Hez

SocketAppender application property

Hi all, I am trying to figure out how a logging server can easily output some kind of information about which client sent the logging message. Log4j's SocketAppender has an "application" property that can be set that causes the application name to be written to the MDC, so that on the server that information is logged. I am looking for an equivalent in Logback and would be greatful if anyone could help out! About the file location in File appender

Hi, When i use the file appender and specify only the log file's name (as opposed to absolute path), the log file is created in the directory from which the application is started. For instance, if i start tomcat from the tomcat bin directory, the log file is created right there in the bin directory. If i start tomcat from my home directory, the log file will be created in my home directory. Is this intentional? Redirecting logback logs to log4j

Hi, I designed component, packaged in jars, using slf4j and logback, this library is then packaged with a third party application using log4j. I presumed that slf4j and logback could be used to change your log system depending on the loaded libraries of your classpath. Here my configuration: my_library.jar using only slf4j and at some point logback dependencies included with it: slf4j-to-log4j.jar slf4j.jar log4j.jar --> already present in the war. logback-*.jar All these libraries are installed into a third part webapp application (client_app.war), directly under the WEB-INF/lib directory of this application. This application has a log4j.properties, in the classes directory, changes are made to create a log4j logger. At my understanding, my library's log events should be redirecting from slf4j/logback to log4j, using the log4j.properties, and so be written in the "client_app..log" configured? Am I wrong? Do I still need a logback.xml to be located under the classes of this webapps as well? Regards, Johan Bos

Changing the caller data

Hi, I created an internal facade around the slf4j (classic logback) logger used for specialized logging. By doing so, the caller data is retrieving my facade instead of the caller of my facade. A brief look at the code, seems to tell me that there is no way to change that behavior from the outside: calls that could allow me to change the FQCN, or the localFQCN passed around are either private or final. SysLog Appender and Line Breaks = :(

Hi, I'm using the SysLog appender and it works well. But I've problems with line breaks, especially for exceptions. Every strack trace line is written as new SysLog-Entry. One Log file per Log Level

Hey, I'm wondering if it's possible to configure Logback so that it writes individual log files for the various log levels. For example ERROR is written to error.txt, WARN to warn.txt and so on... Thanks, James
