I had the same problem and I think I know why J Solaris does interrupt IO blocked thread which then causes the OutputStreamAppender to catch the IOException in line 218 (version 0.9.24). I actually run version 0.9.18 but this part has not change so I guess it will behave the same way. Class not found exception for LoggingEventVO

I have an application client set up to send a logging message over a bus using a logback JMSQueueAppender. Logback version is 0.9.24 and slf4j version is 1.6.1. This is running on a Websphere 7.0 server in Rational Application Developer 7.5. I've tested the bus and queue with a simple text message using the RAD Universal Test Client and that works fine, so at least the foundation is solid. use of java.io.File in logback / Android

I am about to implement an appender that I can use on Android. I'm guessing it won't be much more difficult than doing the same from log4j. The primary problem is that we can't really use java.io.File to access the file system. Android has its own File access API. I believe that this will be as simple as extending RollingFileAppender and overriding methods as needed to swap out the File access apis. Can anybody spot the flaw in my thinking? Are there other pitfalls I need to worry about? Are included files scanned

I have a top-level config file logback.xml and another file logback-included.xml. If I set the scan=true in the logback.xml file, will the included file also be scanned for changes? Is scan=true applicable for <included> tag as well? I find that the scanning doesn't happen, when I change the included file. How to stop all appenders?

I'm using file appenders. At a certain point in my app, a little before shutdown, I have to close all loggers. How do I tell logback to call stop() on all appenders?

Here's what I'd like to do. I have an idea how I would do but would like feedback and to know if someone has already done this before I spend time. 1. when a user logs in, I would like to create a new appender just for their actions. 2. during the course of the user's interactions (new code is entered, an exception is encountered which is not fatal but puzzling), I would like to make the logging finer. 3. by some action (a link at the top of the page or a fatal/really bad exception is encountered), I would like to package up these collected logs and notify someone. 4. if someone with appropriate rights logs into a server, the admin can watch the logs for that user's session. basically, I want a per-session flight recorder. I plan to use MDC to stuff interesting things for the appender of course. Any problems with this or recommendations? I plan on either using Tomcat/Spring or JEE6. In those environments, is there a recommended way of doing reasonably reliable DB operations? thanks, greg

Feature request: elapsed time

This is a request for a new logback feature. Not sure if this is the right place to post it. I'd love to see a new PatternLayout conversion specifier: %elapsed This would show the number of milliseconds elapsed since the last log statement. At the moment, the closest option is %relative, which shows the elapsed milliseconds since the layout was created. I like to log the start and end of different functions so I can see the performance of each. At the moment I have to calculate the elapsed time in every individual function and log it. It would be easier to have logback take care of this for me.
