Hi, i like very much the JsonEncoder that you've added to 1.4.8. Previously we worked with ch.qos.logback.contrib.jackson.JacksonJsonFormatter, but great to see it now natively supported. However, i've stumbled upon the fact that it does not put the "formatted message" in the json payload. It puts the message and the argument array. Some of the libs we use, dolog using the message format based methods, which now look strange in our log aggregation system (sometimes we even see {} as the message with then the actual message as the single member of the argument array). I checked the code of the JsonEncoder and do not see any configuration based way of having the formatted in the json payload (preferably with the "message" key). Do you foresee something like this in the future ? Or do we need to subclass the JsonEncoder ? Thanks Regards

HELP! Need help while deleting logback file (broken symlink - Linux)

Hello, I need your help in creating log files by LOGBACK (v 1.1.4) on LINUX environment. When starting the application server, it generates symbolic links between /proc/<PID>/fd/<NUM> to /appli/test/log/server_fonc.log, appli/test/log/application.log, ... When using the LOGBACK rollover, for example, on the hast file, the application.log.5 file is deleted but it nevertheless generated a symbolic link between "/proc/<PID>/fd/<NUM>" and "/appli/test/log/application.log.5". Suddenly, I end up with a broken symbolic link and a message "/appli/test/log/application.log.5 (deleted)" via the command "lsof -nP +L1 | grep java" For what? Is this a logback issue? Or, an OS problem? Any solution? ServletContainerInitializer cannot be found by ch.qos.logback.classic_1.4.8 (in OSGi application)

Hello everybody, In my OSGi application, I use *ch.qos.logback.classic* (1.4.8) for logging. For this reason I have included, among others, the bundle ch.qos.logback.classic_1.4.8. However, this leads to the following error message: *java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: jakarta.servlet.ServletContainerInitializer cannot be found by ch.qos.logback.classic_1.4.8* I get this error even when I have started the bundle jakarta.servlet-api_6.0.0 (containing jakarta.servlet.ServletContainerInitializer). How should I proceed to solve this problem? Best, Benno

Error while deleting logback

Am using logback.xml to generate logs.Trying to delete the created logfile greater than 10 ( will have 10 logs files ) and delete oldest file from server. After I remove that command it deleting files

Logback in an OSGi application

I develop an OSGi application and I like to upgrade the logging to slf4j 2.0.x and logback 1.4.7. Now I I can't get my application to work because logback shows the message 'Unresolved requirement: Require-Capability: osgi.serviceloader; osgi.serviceloader="ch.qos.logback.classic.spi.Configurator"'. How can I configure my application to satisfy this message? What bundle can I use that provide the requested Configurator? Best; Benno Luthiger

Release of logback versions 1.3.7 and 1.4.7

Hello all, I am happy to announce the simultaneous release of logback versions 1.3.8 and 1.4.8. Both versions require slf4j-api version 2.0.x or later. In addition to fixing several outstanding bugs, these releases add JsonEncoder which outputs logging events in Newline delimited JSON (ndjson) format. Given that downstream users are likely to depend on either Java EE (in the javax namespace) or on Jakarta EE (in the jakarta namespace) in their projects, it was deemed important for logback to support both EE alternatives. As such, logback 1.3.x supports Java EE whereas logback 1.4.x supports Jakarta EE, otherwise the two versions are feature identical. Both 1.3.x and 1.4.x series require the fluent-API introduced in SLF4J 2.0.x. The 1.3.x series requires Java 8 at runtime. If you wish to build logback from source, you will need Java 9. The 1.4.x series requires Java 11 at build time and at runtime. Automatic reload works for "include"d files, but not property files

Using logback 1.2.9. While testing some changes for overriding property values, I noticed that if I save a change to my "logback.xml" or in an xml file that I "include" from that file, logback will automatically reload with the specified interval. However, if I defined a "property" element referring to a properties file in that "logback.xml", and I save a change to that file, no automatic reload happens. Is that intended?

I posted this question to StackOverflow: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/76427762/can-i-override-portions-of-an-… . And I had posted a similar question several months ago. I didn't get a response to the original query, and I have a feeling I won't get one on the new query. Basically, I have a few hundred services that have a "logback.xml" file that includes a "baselogback.xml" file that is defined in a common place. That "baselogback.xml" defines an appender and an encoder in that appender, and inside that encoder, it defines a "stackTrace" element that constrains the size of the stacktrace in logs. I'm trying to determine reasonable options for overriding those settings in the "logback.xml" of the service itself. I'd prefer options that don't require me to simply copy the entire appender definition from the base and paste it into the service's logback.xml and then modify it. At this point, there are only specific settings I want to override. Another not ideal option is providing multiple "baselogback.xml" files in the same common location (with slightly different names, obviously) which represent commonly requested variations, like "baselogback.fullstacktrace.xml", and have the service's logback.xml include that one instead. That still requires copying code and having to maintain two copies, but at least it's still in a common place, and not littered in all the services. Any other reasonable ideas that can make this flexible without a lot of duplications?
