Hello, Is there a way to configure logback to rouge Java exceptions to the log file? I've got all my other messages going to my desired file successfully but exceptions still go to the console. Thanks! Localized log level names

Hi all, Few days ago I started experimenting with the org.slf4j.cal10n package for generating localized logs using logback. That package easily allow one to obtain localized log messages. Since SLF4J does not support localization of logger names and I need them to be localized too, I made some modification to logback-classic and used CAL10N to internationalize level names. More precisely, I defined an enum type named Levels with the keys TRACE, DEBUG, INFO, WARN and ERROR. I created resource bundles for some locales, e.g. levels_ja.properties for the Japanese locale. I added to the Level class the constructor private Level(int levelInt, Enum<?> key) { this.levelInt = levelInt; IMessageConveyor mc = new MessageConveyor(Locale.getDefault()); this.levelStr = mc.getMessage(key); } Finally, I defined the TRACE, DEBUG, INFO, WARN and ERROR using the above constructor, e.g, for level TRACE public static final Level TRACE = new Level(TRACE_INT, Levels.TRACE); Thanks to this modification I am know able to obtain localized level names in log files. SyslogAppender stacktrace logging prefix

Hi, we have recently switched from Log4J to Logback. Logging seems to work well except stack traces in SyslogAppender. They are prefixed just like remaining log messages. Is there any way how to disable this prefix and ensure they will be printed in the same manner like with Log4J SyslogAppender? Download logback-core-1.0.3.jar, logback-classic-1.0.3.jar, and slf4j-api-1.6.4.jar into the project's "libs" directory. 3. Rebuild and run the project (which opens a new instance of Eclipse). 4. From the new instance of Eclipse, open the Error Log (menu "Window > Show Views > Error Log"), and choose menu "Sample Menu > Sample Command". This causes a "Hello World" message box, followed by a log entry in the Error Log.

Multiple layouts for a single appender

Hello, My situation is this: on certain specific and frequent log statements, I need the stacktrace to identify the method that needs to be investigated. However, the whole stacktrace is too long and unnecessary in this case (it is generating too much logging and garbage), but in every other, it is useful. I'd like to change the layout for this situation, and use %throwable{5}, for example. So, I found nothing on the manual similar to this, and nothing searching around, maybe I'll need a custom class. If so, how could I do it? Multiple filtered appenders writing to the same file seems too much overhead and troublesome; I think the best approach would be a custom encoder, and do the selection inside 'doEncode', based on some event parameter, probably a specific marker. I'm just analyzing the possibilities, no coding yet, so I'm not aware of any shortcomings or limitations. Given the case, is there any API class I'm missing to do this? Should I take the custom code path? Thanks!

Anyway, even without the stack trace, we can assume that your custom appender will be instantiated by calling the instantiateByClassName(String, Class, Context) method in OptionHelper (line 36). This method assumes that you want to use the class loader which loaded the current logback context to be used. (This is usually the same class loader that loaded all other logback classes as well.) Thus, you have to make sure that the said class loader can load foo.RCPAppender.
