Problems with DBAppender / JNDI / JBoss 7 / OracleDB

Hi there, I’m trying to log into Oracle database tables using DBAppender and JNDIConnectionSource. I created the needed tables for logging as mentioned in documentation. I want to use connection pooling and the JNDI variant for getting the pool. Here’s my configuration: -JBoss 7.0.2 (the complete one, not the web profile) -Oracle DB 11g -logback-classic 0.9.29 -ojdbc 11.2.0.2.0 I configured the following things: In JBoss: -A new module for Oracle JDBC drivers -A new connection pool using Oracle JDBC drivers in the modules segment of JBoss In standalone.xml: <datasource jndi-name="java:/myLog" pool-name="myLogPool" enabled="true" jta="true" use-java-context="true" use-ccm="true"> <connection-url> jdbc:oracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:orcl </connection-url> <driver> oracle </driver> <transaction-isolation> TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED </transaction-isolation> <pool> <prefill> true </prefill> <use-strict-min> false </use-strict-min> <flush-strategy> FailingConnectionOnly </flush-strategy> </pool> <security> <user-name> log </user-name> <password> secretPassw0rd </password> </security> </datasource> -logback-classic.jar and it's dependencies are being shipped with my .ear file. In logback.xml: ... <appender name="DBAppender" class="ch.qos.logback.classic.db.DBAppender"> <connectionSource class="ch.qos.logback.core.db.JNDIConnectionSource"> <param name="jndiLocation" value="java:/myLog" /> </connectionSource> </appender> ... <root> <appender-ref ref="DBAppender" /> </root> I have also configured a RollingFileAppender and a ConsoleAppender. They both work fine on my JBoss. In the server.log from JBoss you can see that he successfully published my data source myLog under java:/myLog. I can't see any problems occurring due to logging from JBoss. No problems with logging via logback are mentioned. But when my application starts logging, the entries are logged to console and the file appender, but nothing is written to the database. I have a second connection pool configured in JBoss for my application. That one is working fine. I can't figure out what the problem is. Please help me. Regards, Henning

Transport protocol for SMTPAppender

Hi, is it possible to define what protocol (mail.transport.protocol) to use with SMTPAppender other than through System properties which are global? Logging important info which must be sent by mail must be part of my tests and for that purpose, I've made a MockTransport that I would like to use. logback rollover within a certain period of time

Dear sir/madam, I am a university student trying to create a software related to my coursework and 1 of the requirements is that the output of logback file will rollover to new files every 5 minutes. I am unable to find a solution to this and i tried to use the periodictimebasedfilenamingandtriggeringpolicy. I cannot get any msg out of it. Problem with fileNamePattern for daily rollover

Hello, I'd like to set up a daily rollover: <appender name="monitoringAppender" class="ch.qos.logback.core.rolling.RollingFileAppender"> <append>true</append> <file>log/monitoring.log</file> <rollingPolicy class="ch.qos.logback.core.rolling.TimeBasedRollingPolicy">  <fileNamePattern>log/monitoring-%d{EE}.log</fileNamePattern> <maxHistory>7</maxHistory> </rollingPolicy> <encoder> <pattern>%d{yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.SSS} - %msg%n</pattern> </encoder> </appender> but when I set up the fileNamePattern with %d{EE} archives are not created. Enable Debugging Mode Programmatically?

I was wondering if there is a way to enable debug mode programmatically. Since I'm not allowed to use configuration file, I'm currently configure everything programmatically. Recently, I ran into an issue where RollingFileAppender stop writing to file though FileAppender works perfectly fine. In fact, RollingFileAppender was also working last week and nothing that I'm aware of has changed since. Please let me know if there is a way to enable debug since doing it using configuration file (logback.xml) doesn't seem to be working. UnknownHostException when using logback with logback.xml

Hi, when I use logback without a logback.xml, everything works fine, but when I add a logback.xml file, I get an UnknownHostException. This happens in the ch.qos.logback.core.util.ContextUtil class, when InetAddress.getLocalHost() is called. In our environment, there is no hostname mapping available to the JVM, so the JVM cannot find one. So why does logback require the IP at this point? Regards Jan Ehrhardt

Hello, I just tried the example given for variable substitution in the FAQ with logback 1.0.0: http://logback.qos.ch/faq.html#sharedConfiguration And it seems the "context.reset();" line is not in the right place. If I use the same code as in the example, I got this (I added a few lines of code at the end to print the filename that should be changed after doConfigure()): --BEGIN CODE-- LoggerContext context = (LoggerContext) LoggerFactory.getILoggerFactory(); // context.reset(); // This works! // property of the LoggerContext context.putProperty("application-name", "killerapp"); JoranConfigurator jc = new JoranConfigurator(); jc.setContext(context); context.reset(); // override default configuration. Filtering stacktraces by evaluating packages

Hello, I would like to simplify stacktraces when errors occur in an application. For example, with a hypothetical stack such as: com.xyz.Wombat.doSomething javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service org.appserver.JspCompiler.handleJsp org.appserver.ServletEngine.handleServlet java.lang.Thread.run ...going down from top-to-bottom, I'd like to detect that line "org.appserver.JspCompiler.handleJsp" has been found, and exclude it -- and all subsequent "lower down" stack frames -- from logging output. Looking at http://logback.qos.ch/manual/layouts.html#Evaluators I assume it must be possible with EventEvaluator because of the syntax %xEx{evaluator-n} but I can't find an example. Furthermore, as I set up LogBack programmatically (and not via XML or any of bundled "configurator"), I'd be happiest if I could be directed towards an API-based example. Substituting class/method names in logback log files with original names when deploying obfuscated code

Hello, What would be the best way to handle logging with logback when deploying obfuscated code? For example, with YGuard, when the obfuscator runs, it outputs a mapping file of obfuscated code (class names, method names, etc) to unobfuscated code. When a stacktrace or just any logging trace is output, the class/method names are obviously obfuscated. As it's possible to deploy this mapping with the code, say embedded in the same ".jar", all the information I would need is available. Without too much re-writing of code (default formatting with logback), what would be the best way to dynamically replace matching class/method names? Thanks, Christopher
