Hi Mark, I've looked at the pull request you sent previously and I was left scratching my head. However, I guess you are right that mail servers can require TLS without requiring authentication. In SMTPAppender, the TLS property is tied to the auth property and it shouldn't be. Mail servers can require TLS without requiring authentication. I've put in a pull request on github that removes the auth requirement if you enable TLS.
For future reference, is the pull request sufficient, or do I need to open an issue, send email to the mailing list, etc?
