Log data encryption in RollingFileAppender?

Hi I've been looking at the sources of RollingFileAppender, ResilientFileOutputStream, etc. as I'm trying to find a way which allows me to encrypt the log messages before they get written to the underlying file. Still I want to be able to rotate the log files. Any ideas how this can be done elegantly in the current logback framework? Regards, Silvano

Making custom calls on error levels

Hi guys, I want to extend logback to send logs with ERROR log levels to our internal logging service (with http post and some custom parameters). Is writing a custom logback Filter the best way to do this? The word 'filter' to me sounds more to "filter out logs". Thanks

logback-access usage

Hi, I'm a bit confused about logback-access usage... I'm using Tomcat 6.0.29 and logback 0.9.26, i've followed instructions http://logback.qos.ch/access.html to get HTTP logs...however all i got is just logback status messages 1) Do i need to put a logback-access.xml in my servlet ? (for now it's just in tomcat/conf/ ) 2) How should i configure logback so that my servlet logs will show in the logback servlet ? my logback-access.xml : <configuration>  <statusListener class="ch.qos.logback.core.status.OnConsoleStatusListener" /> <appender name="STDOUT" class="ch.qos.logback.core.ConsoleAppender"> <encoder> <pattern>%h %l %u %user %date "%r" %s %b</pattern> </encoder> </appender> <appender-ref ref="STDOUT" /> </configuration> Thanxs, Max

Are included files scanned

I have a top-level config file logback.xml and another file logback-included.xml. If I set the scan=true in the logback.xml file, will the included file also be scanned for changes? Is scan=true applicable for <included> tag as well? I find that the scanning doesn't happen, when I change the included file. Hi Ceki Thanks for the prompt reply. So you are suggesting to write a small Custome CSS Builder for both configurations? They are probably quite trivial and we'll try; do you see such CSS Builder ever make it into the official release? If so, should we raise a JIRA? and provide the sample code? Thanks Benoit ----- Hi Benoit, Including the CSS in a jar file and then including it via a custom CssBuilder should not be a problem. Try to write one and see how it goes. As for ExplicitCssBuilder, I think all you need is to define a String property called "cssTest", the rest should be automatically taken care of by logback/joran. Hi * Our flagship product has been using SLF4J for years but we're switching to LogBack and so far...loving it! We have a question about the CSS builder we could be using for HTML emails. We noticed the DefaultCssBuilder and the UrlCssBuilder, however is there a way to either include the CSS in a jar file, or to specify the CSS in the XML file directly? Something like: <cssBuilder class="ch.qos.logback.classic.html.ExplicitCssBuilder">  <cssText> ...the CSS Text itself.... </cssText> </cssBuilder> Is it something that exists or something that somebody would be willing to provide code or guidelines? LOGback XML configuration schema

Could you provide XML Schema (XSD) for XML configuration files ? In Eclipse there is smart code completion for XML files associated with XSD, I found for Log4j there is DTD: http://wiki.apache.org/logging-log4j/Log4jXmlFormat I found some discussion here: http://www.mail-archive.com/logback-user@qos.ch/msg00055.html "There is no DTD to logback configuration files because this is pretty difficult to give a description that is not too strict of the possibilities that the components of logback may offer. " Actually DTD is very primitive, I think that XSD is much more appreciate way. Help with logback configuration

Thanks for your help...I just switched from log4j to slf4j/logback and this is one issue holding us up from moving to QA/UAT...so I am on a fire drill. If what I have here is not the right way to think about logging for my scenario...please let me know. I have multiple variations I have tried, but I will list the two here. WLS 11g, in my war [SLF4J 1.6.1 api/ext, Logback 0.9.27 core/classic, log4j-over-slf4j 1.6.1, jcl-over-slf4j 1.6.1] I have multiple wars that run in 1+ managed instances of WLS that write to the same central log files. Trying to have one central log and each application have their individual log files (but one across the managed instances...unless it's easier for each managed instance to have its own copy). 1) I included slf4j/logback jars in WLS lib directory and add one logback.xml file into the main/resources directory so when the war is built it gets put into WEB-INF/classes of the war. - No log files are produced at all, not even writing a 0 byte file. 2) I included slf4j/logback in a preclasspath folder that I add into WLS startup scripts and I also added -Dlogback.configurationFile=%DOMAIN_HOME%\lib\logback.xml into the startup script. I excluded a configuration file from the war. - Log files are created, but nothing is printed to any of the log files. Autoscan logback configuration using Glassfish V 3.0.1

Dear users, based on http://hwellmann.blogspot.com/2010/12/glassfish-logging-with-slf4j-part-2.h… this blog I manage to use logback with Glassfish V 3.0.1. I created a simple web application to test the logback features. I use logback.xml and add the scan parameters. <configuration scan="true" scanPeriod="30 seconds"> ... </configuration> If I modify the contents, e. g. change LEVEL from ERROR to INFO, there is no automatic reloading. If I restart the web application, the changes applied. Did anybody manage to solve this with Glassfish V 3.0.1 or could point me to the right direction?
