I'm developing an application for command line, and I use slf4j + logback for logging (http://db2sa.sourceforge.net/) When using normally (not testing, not debugging), I have to show less messages in the screen, so the logging has not to be verbose. Just the important messages has to be shown. I was using the version 0.9.15, and I updated my application to the version 0.9.21. I saw, that the layout has to be changed to encoder, and I did it in the xml configuration file. However, I'm facing a problem when starting the application. The logger is showing all the configuration phase, and I'm sure that the internal log is not in debug: <configuration debug="false"> It seems that the new version does not take in account this property. I searched the problematic version, and this issue was introduced in the version 0.9.19. I created an example for showing the difference when loading the configuration between 0.9.18 and 0.9.19. Greetings all, I recently had to port commons-logging SimpleLog functionality in SLF4J's SimpleLogger. Namely, I have added the following: * optional configuration file; if none found, you get the exact same set of features as the currently released SimpleLogger. * enable to log all log levels * enable to set different log levels for different Loggers * enable to show/hide thread name * very primitive log messages customisation (about the same as commons-logging) Once again, the new code is totally compatible in behaviour and output with the currently released SimpleLogger. I also made it so that current users of commons-logging can upgrade to SLF4J very easily. Do you think this is a worthwhile improvement over SimpleLogger? I don't like the idea of two different Loggers, nor creating a different slf4j-api-jdk15 artifact. IMHO if either of these happened, SLF4J could as well be renamed to "Complicated Logging Facade for Java". I'm all for dropping support for Java 1.4 in the next version. It is not as though people opting to stay with Java 1.4 would have no good options to do logging: log4j has been around for ages, and SLF4J 1.6 will still be available to them. Hello all, I am happy to announce the immediate availability of SLF4J version 1.6.0-RC0, which is still experimental, consisting of several important enhancements and bug fixes. As of 1.6.0-RC0, in the absence of an SLF4J binding, slf4j-api will default to a no-operation implementation discarding all log requests. Thus, instead of throwing an exception, SLF4J will emit a single warning message about the absence of a binding and proceed to discard all log requests without further protest. Simple log admin facade?

Is there any simple log admin facade api out there? Often apps expose a simple way to set logger levels or list what the current levels are. Does anything like that exist already for use with slf4j components? --jason
